There are several ways the authorities can help solve or prevent cybercrimes. Here are some of them:
- Network Security. Before a hacker can get through the unauthorized files he or she is targeting, the hacker has to get through several security measures like firewalls, secure connections, passwords, anti-malwares, and data encryptions. Encryption is the process of converting raw data into code. However, these methods are not 100% secure and there will always be a way for a hacker to hack.
- Investigation. URL tracing and logging are used by websites to track your unique IP addresses. This can be used by investigators to trace hackers. In piracy, trackers are used to identify IP addresses currently sharing a pirated file.
- Penalties. More and more laws are being created and implemented today. Penalties include both a fine and imprisonment.

Are there any ways to fight, prevent, or to combat cybercrimes?
ReplyDeleteYes, there are always a way to prevent cybercrimes.
DeleteIn order to prevent cybercrime IT News Africa has come up with 8 tips to avoid cybercrime:
*Constantly update passwords and login details
By changing your login details, at least once or twice a month, you can cut down your chances of being a target of cybercrime.
*A secure computer will deter cyber criminals
Always be sure to activate your firewall settings. Furthermore, installing anti-virus and anti-spyware software will protect your computer from various forms of malware, viruses, Trojan horses and other malicious software used to obtain your personal details.
*Be social media savvy
Make sure your social networking profiles (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MSN, etc.) are set to private. Check your security settings. Be careful what information you post online. Once it is on the Internet, it is extremely difficult to remove.
*Secure mobile devices
More often than not, we leave our mobile devices unattended. By activating the built-in security features you can avoid any access to personal details. Never store passwords, pin numbers and even your own address on any mobile device.
*Protect your Data
Use encryption for your most sensitive files such as tax returns or financial records, make regular back-ups of all your important data, and store it in a different location.
*Be aware of what you do while using public Wi-Fi Hotspots
While these access points are convenient, they are far from secure. Avoid conducting financial or corporate transactions on these networks.
*Protect your e-identity
Be cautious when giving out personal information such as your name, address, phone number or financial information on the Internet. Make sure that websites are secure (e.g. when making online purchases) or that you’ve enabled privacy settings (e.g. when accessing/using social networking sites).
*Avoid being scammed
Always think before you click on a link or file of unknown origin. Don’t feel pressured by any emails. Check the source of the message. When in doubt, verify the source. Never reply to emails that ask you to verify your information or confirm your user ID or password.
As I surf on the internet, cyber bullying is not included in cybercrime bill, for your opinion, does cyber bullying must be included in this bill?
ReplyDeleteCyberbullying is not included on the new cybercrime law, but there are pending bills filed in both houses of congress on this and it is not cybercrime bill but cybercrime law.
DeleteFor me, cyberbullying must be included in cybercrime law because some people now a days always make a way to harm or hurt you. Cyberbullying can have a bad effect specially in emotional traits. Some youth who are bullied have a higher risk of depression and anxiety.
Can you mention some cases of cybercrimes that was successfully resolved by the authorities (including their strategy to combat cybercrime)?
ReplyDeleteBased on my research, From January to December of 2014, the Philippine National Police (PNP) – Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) recorded six hundred fourteen (614) cybercrime incidents, compared to 2013 where there were only two-hundred and eighty-eight (288) incidents. Cybercrime incidents are increasing every year and I don't know if all that incidents are resolved. For strategies our government had a responsibility for that.
DeleteHow does cybercrime affects the feelings of individual?
ReplyDeleteThe first study to examine the emotional impact of cybercrime, it shows that victims’ strongest reactions are feeling angry (58%), annoyed (51%) and cheated (40%), and in many cases, they blame themselves for being attacked.
DeleteOnly 3% don’t think it will happen to them, and nearly 80% do not expect cybercriminals to be brought to justice— resulting in an ironic reluctance to take action and a sense of helplessness.
Cybercrime victim Todd Vinson of Chicago explained, “I was emotionally and financially unprepared because I never thought I would be a victim of such a crime. I felt violated, as if someone had actually come inside my home to gather this information, and as if my entire family was exposed to this criminal act. Now I can’t help but wonder if other information has been illegally acquired and just sitting in the wrong people’s hands, waiting for an opportunity to be used.”
Is cybercrime still a huge problem and should we be worried about it?
ReplyDeleteCybercrime is a huge problem because we live in a digital world now and we should be aware of it not worried. We must be aware to prevent cybercrime because maybe we became a victim.
DeleteWhat are the possible causes that leads one to commit cyber crime?
ReplyDeletePossible to commit cyber crime:
Delete1. Passion of youngsters:
Cyber crimes can be committed for the sake of recognition. This is basically committed by youngsters who want to be noticed and feel among the group of the big and tough guys in the society. They do not mean to hurt anyone in particular; they fall into the category of the Idealists; who just want to be in spotlight.
2. Desire of making quick money:
Another cause of cyber-crime is to make quick money. This group is greed motivated and is career criminals, who tamper with data on the net or system especially, e-commerce, e-banking data information with the sole aim of committing fraud and swindling money off unsuspecting customers.
3. Misconception of fighting a Just cause:
Thirdly, cyber-crime can be committed to fight a cause one thinks he believes in; to cause threat and most often damages that affect the recipients adversely. This is the most dangerous of all the causes of cyber-crime. Those involve believe that they are fighting a just cause and so do not mind who or what they destroy in their quest to get their goals achieved. These are the cyber-terrorists.
4. Capacity to store data in comparatively small space:
The computer has unique characteristic of storing data in a very small space. This affords to remove or derive information either through physical or virtual medium makes it much easily.
5. Confidential Information is online:
Confidential data from security firms, scientific databases, financial institutes and even governmental organizations is stored online and on networks. This allows cyber criminals to initiate unauthorized access and use it for their own needs. Complex technology can be manipulated and firewalls can be bypassed, allowing criminals to gain access to security codes, bank accounts and other information.
If we are in the same position of being cyber bullied, what should we do in order to protect ourselves from this cases ma'am?
ReplyDeleteTen Tips to Avoid Cyber Bullying
Delete1.Educate yourself
To prevent cyberbullying from occurring you must understand exactly what it is. Research what constitutes cyberbullying, as well as how and where it is most likely to occur. Talk to your friends about what they are seeing and experiencing.
2.Protect your password
Safeguard your password and other private information from prying eyes. Never leave passwords or other identifying information where others can see it. Also, never give out this information to anyone, even your best friend. If others know it, take the time to change it now!
3.Keep photos “PG”
Before posting or sending that sexy image of yourself, consider if it’s something you would want your parents, grandparents, and the rest of the world to see. Bullies can use this picture as ammunition to make life miserable for you.
4.Never open unidentified or unsolicited messages
Never open messages (emails, text messages, Facebook messages, etc.) from people you don’t know, or from known bullies. Delete them without reading. They could contain viruses that automatically infect your device if opened. Also never click on links to pages that are sent from someone you don’t know. These too could contain a virus designed to collect your personal or private information.
5.Log out of online accounts
Don’t save passwords in form fields within web sites or your web browser for convenience, and don’t stay logged in when you walk away from the computer or cell phone. Don’t give anyone even the slightest chance to pose as you online through your device. If you forget to log out of Facebook when using the computer at the library, the next person who uses that computer could get into your account and cause significant problems for you.
6.Pause before you post
Do not post anything that may compromise your reputation. People will judge you based on how you appear to them online. They will also give or deny you opportunities (jobs, scholarships, internships) based on this.
7.Raise awareness
Start a movement, create a club, build a campaign, or host an event to bring awareness to cyberbullying. While you may understand what it is, it’s not until others are aware of it too that we can truly prevent it from occurring.
8.Setup privacy controls
Restrict access of your online profile to trusted friends only. Most social networking sites like Facebook and Google + offer you the ability to share certain information with friends only, but these settings must be configured in ordered to ensure maximum protection.
9.“Google” yourself
Regularly search your name in every major search engine (e.g., Google, Bing, Yahoo). If any personal information or photo comes up which may be used by cyberbullies to target you, take action to have it removed before it becomes a problem.
10.Don’t be a cyberbully yourself
Treat others how you would want to be treated. By being a jerk to others online, you are reinforcing the idea that the behavior is acceptable.
can you file a police report for cyber bullying?
ReplyDeleteCyberbullying is not included on the new cybercrime law, but there are pending bills filed in both houses of congress on this.
DeleteAtty. Marlon Tonson, representative of the Philippine Internet Freedom Alliance (PIFA) suggested the deletion of both provisions since bullying under the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013 was not defined as a criminal offense. Cases of bullying were not meant to be brought to court.
"Hanggang principal's office lang iyon, hindi sa court dadalhin," Tonson said in an interview with GMA News Online.
"Bullying is harmful, but it's very subjective. Online libel will be difficult to prosecute, but this one will be more difficult," said Angel T. Redoble, President and CEO of BDO ARMCI Solutions & Consultancy, Inc.
